With our headlamps on, we left our cars with the intent to summit the Grand Teton in a day via the Full Exum, often referred to as the Durrance Direct. As my partner and I had never made the approach before, so we were like little kids asking each other, “how long until we get to the base? How long until we get to the base? Should we eat a snack?” As the shedding of layers became common, we were excited to reach the base of the climb. Making it to the saddle before sunrise, we knew we had given ourselves plenty of time. After a quick refill of water, we headed to our climb. Along the scramble, this was our view of the Middle Teton.
