First light, roughly 5 am, freezing and dark. A storm had broken and I crunched upon the snow with each footstep. Hands to freezing metal, not ideal. Pulsing red, my fingertips were unhappy as I set up my tripod, mounted my camera, and snapped images.

The sun was yet to peak over the White Mountains. In fact, this dark shadow below the Eastern Sierra is the shadow casted by the White Mountains.
