Should a Golden Gate Bridge Print Be Paper, Metal, or Canvas?

It depends on your budget and where the print will hang. Paper with a frame is usually the cheapest. Metal is the most durable and usually the most expensive. Canvas sits in the middle, with a few catches.

My Sunset at Golden Gate Bridge print comes in paper, metal, and canvas, so here is how I would compare them.

Paper

Paper looks great, but you need a frame. Without one, it can look pretty janky. Once you add a frame, it becomes a clean, finished piece.

A paper print plus a frame is usually your cheapest option overall. It is a good fit if you want to keep costs down and you already have a frame style in mind.

Metal

Metal is stunning. It also has very good UV protection, and it is the most durable of the three. If you want a piece that lasts, this is the one.

There are two caveats. Metal is usually the most expensive. It also has a lot of glare. If you hang it where light reflects off it, like across from a window or near a dining table, it can shine right back at you. Think about where the light will hit before you order.

Canvas

Canvas absorbs the most light, so glare is not really a concern. That makes it easier to place in a bright room.

The catch is fading. Canvas will fade over time in direct sunlight. Keep it out of direct sun and it should hold up well.

Price usually lands between paper and metal. On larger sizes, canvas can actually cost more. Much of that comes from shipping, because it has to be constructed.

How to decide

Start with the wall. Is it sunny, bright, or shaded? A glare-heavy spot points you away from metal. A sunny spot points you away from canvas.

Then look at the budget. Paper and a frame is the safest low-cost route. Metal is the premium pick. Canvas is the in-between choice, unless you go big.

Size and shipping

The print comes in seven sizes: 8x10, 8x12, 11x14, 12x18, 16x24, 20x30, and 24x36. Custom sizes and other materials, like wood or gatorboard, can be quoted on request.
